Recently, the Kansas Dept of Health and Environment issued all Kansas schools an updated provision for handling the Covid-19 pandemic. This temporary provision allows for the suspension of contact tracing in schools for 30 days. As a result, USD 346 will be adopting that suspension and as of Monday, January 24 will not be conducting contact tracing in either Jayhawk Elementary or Jayhawk Junior/Senior High School. The suspension of contact tracing means that our testing procedures will change to a “Test to Know” strategy in which any student or staff that reports to the school nurse with symptoms associated with Covid-19 will be offered a diagnostic test. Any student or staff member that tests positive will still be expected to stay at home for five days but may return on day 6 provided symptoms have dissipated and the individual agrees to wear a mask for days 6 - 10. In addition, the suspension of contact tracing means that we will no longer be using our modified quarantine procedure. USD 346 will do its best to notify families when a potential exposure has occurred and will shift the decision to quarantine to the parents/ guardians of those that are potentially exposed. USD 346 will continue to work with state and local health agencies to adopt and modify our procedures.

Cancelled Girl’s Varsity game vs Oswego in the Pleasanton Midseason tourney scheduled for Friday at 5pm is cancelled due to Oswego calling off school for the remainder of the the week. This will also postpone all of our makeup games Monday 1/24 with Oswego at Jayhawk Linn. We are trying to find a 2nd makeup date at this time and will post as soon as we can confirm.

All Stars at First Baptist Church has cancelled all activities for this evening.

Jayhawk Nation...USD 346 has now collected more than 50 positive cases of Covid 19 in our two buildings and our absentee rates are near 30% in both buildings. Both students and staff are falling ill. As a result, USD 346 will NOT be in session on Thursday, January 13th or Friday, January 14th. All activities scheduled for those date are also postponed. Monday, January 17th is still a scheduled holiday so students will return to school on Tuesday, January 18th. Activities will resume at that time as well. I am truly sorry for the inconveniences that this may cause!!

Jayhawk Nation, On Monday night the district adopted new protocols for Covid-19 that align with recommendations from our state and local health authorities. 1. Students and staff who test positive for Covid 19 may return to school on day six provided they are symptom free and willing to wear a mask for days 6-10. 2. Modified Quarantine options remain in effect, however, students and staff will only be tested once during that 10 day quarantine. 3. Vaccination status is no longer considered when contact tracing and declaring a close contact exposure. 4. The window for immunity from a previous Covid-19 infection has been shortened from 180 days to only 90 days. These protocols will be revisited at our next regularly scheduled Board of Education Meeting. While our goal is to move away from restrictions and more towards normal operating procedures, our current surge of positive cases necessitates keeping these protocols in place for the time being. Please be patient with us as we work to keep USD 346 a safe place for everyone.
