The Jayhawk Volleyball team dropped their first match of the season last night against the Humboldt Cubs 23-25, 22-25, but then the Lady Jayhawks Volleyball team bounced back with a strong performance and beat St Mary’s Colgan Panthers in the final match 25-20, 25-22. St Mary’s Colgan beat Humboldt in the middle match. The three close matches on the night along with great crowd support made for a great atmosphere and night of volleyball! The Lady Jayhawks are now 7-1 on the season and play again next week September 7th at Erie.

Jayhawk Elementary has experienced a temporary loss of Air Conditioning on the south side of campus. Our maintenance staff is currently dealing with the issue and our staff inside the building is doing their best with fans, and rotating students into the North part of the building for "cooling breaks". We will keep you updated and will continue to work towards a solution. If you believe that it is in the best interest of your student to leave early, please notify the JES front office and make arrangements. We apologize for the inconvenience!!

Dear Parents, Several years ago, we implemented the car line in an effort to unload and load students in the safest way possible. Prior to the car line, we had two safety issues that triggered the change. First, we had a student who unloaded out front of our building one morning. After he stepped out of the car, he crossed into the parking space next to his vehicle. Another car was pulling into the space he was crossing. The car tire actually rolled up on this child’s foot. We were very fortunate the incident didn’t cause serious injury. Second, prior to the car line, we had multiple incidents where elementary students were defying their parents after school plans and sneaking to their friend's house. They were getting into vehicles to go home with friends instead of riding the bus. It was impossible for us to supervise the approximately 100 students loading into vehicles in individual parking spaces surrounding our building. Creating the car line and loading 5 vehicles at a time has prevented both of the types of safety issues mentioned above. Please remind your high school students, grandparents, and other relatives who deliver and pick up your children, to use the car line for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. The line does take a few extra minutes of your time, extra staff members to make it possible, and some patience from all of us. Your child’s safety is worth it.
