Responsible, trustworthy, and hard working are just a few words that describe Aron Coleman. These are also traits that are taught to members of the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts started in 1910 and recently celebrated their 115th birthday and have a rich history that has supported many youth. There have been over 100 million Boy Scouts since their inception. They have supported youth to establish leadership skills, boost self confidence, explore the outdoors, and to help others. All of these are areas where Aron excels, which is why his achievement of Eagle Scout is no surprise. Only 2% of all Boy Scouts have ever achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. This rank is one of prestige that takes time and effort. Aron has shown perseverance through this process and exemplified the characteristics of an Eagle Scout. Whe he was asked what he will remember the most about this process, he responded by talking aobut all the people who had helped him. HIs parents have been his biggest supporters and he appreciates them the most. He also spoke of his uncle along with Boy Scout leaders who supported him along the way. He spoke fondly of his friend Matthew Meggies who was an older scout that mentored Aron from the start.
Aron Chose his Eagle Scout project based upon the time that he had spend at the Mine Creek Battlefield. He spoke with administration at the battlefield and they discussed many options but settled on needing a bridge. By building this bridge, Aron was able to establish another water crossing at the battlefield and that allowed for them to open two more trails for patrons to use. Aron would like to thank several local vendors for the support of his project and says he couldn't have done it without them. Avery Lumber, Coleman Hardware and Heartland Electric are the local businesses that donated all the supplies needed.
Aron has the goal of becoming a paramedic after high school and he firmly believes that the Boy Scouts will continue to help him mature and influence his life. USD 346 would like to congratulate Aron on his achievement and we are proud to have him as a Jayhawk!
